This Week in the Senate, March 31 to April 4

Happy April. Monday was the Legislature’s Eid break; no committees or floor. Here’s the week ahead at the Senate:

Tuesday, April 1

11 a.m. — The Senate will take up SF 823, modifying funding for construction on the US Highway 169 and Trunk Highway 282 intersection in Scott County; and take SR 15 from the table, continuing the March 27 floor discussion.

Wednesday, April 2

11 a.m. — The Senate will take up HF 1058, modifying the composition of the North Koochiching Sanitary Sewer Board.

Thursday, April 3

11 a.m. — Daily orders of business, no bills expected.

Tuesday, April 1

8:30 a.m. — The Education Finance Committee will hear a walkthrough of SF 2255, the education budget omnibus bill. Testimony will be taken at the April 2 hearing.

8:30 a.m. — The Health and Human Services Committee will hear several bills, including a bill funding health care worker wellbeing grants (SF 831) and a bill to create a task force on children's residential facilities, requiring the Human Services commissioner to provide updates on children's mental health projects, and other related statute modifications and funding around children’s mental health (SF 2349).

12:30 p.m. — The Commerce and Consumer Protection Committee will hear the omnibus cannabis bill (SF 2370);

12:30 p.m. — The Education Policy Committee will hear a walkthrough of the education policy omnibus (SF 1740).

12:30 p.m. — The Jobs and Economic Development Committee will hear several bills, including a bill funding grants for equine mental heath therapy for first responders suffering from trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (SF 2761) and an update on Paid Family and Medical Leave from the deputy commissioner of DEED and the director of paid leave.
