2026 will be hugely consequential in the fight to defend our democracy. The victories we powered in Virginia alongside The States Project last year is proof of what’s possible this November.
States decide every issue that impacts our daily lives. Quality, affordable healthcare, to good public schools, protecting our air and water from pollution, and more. State lawmakers also draw the district lines that determine seats in Congress. And from the Dobbs decision, to the Affordable Care Act, to marriage equality, many policies that start in states become national law.
Plus, it’s often cheaper to flip an entire state chamber than it is to win a single competitive Congressional district – focusing our time and resources on winning state legislatures is the most strategic way to protect our democracy and build a better future.
